Siemens Launches Eigen: The Autonomous Engineering Agent

The buzz at MACH 2026 this week is all about preparing for AI. And, Siemens has just shown the world what the destination actually looks like.

At Hannover Messe 2026, also taking place this week (and at which Siemens is also exhibiting), Siemens unveiled the Eigen Engineering Agent. This is designed as a pivotal shift in the industrial landscape. We are finally moving past the “Copilot” era of simple advice. Instead, we are entering the era of the Autonomous Agent. Such systems can plan, execute, and validate complex engineering tasks without constant hand-holding.

Beyond Chatting: AI That Writes the Code

First and foremost, the Eigen Engineering Agent isn’t just another chatbot. It is a production-ready system integrated into the Siemens TIA Portal. Crucially, this platform is already used by over 600,000 engineers globally.

Unlike consumer AI, which might hallucinate a poem, “Eigen” operates within strict real-world constraints. Specifically, it can:

  • Generate PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) code automatically.
  • Configure HMI visualisations and device setups.
  • Iterate and debug until it meets pre-defined performance benchmarks.

As a result, users see 50% greater engineering efficiency and a staggering 80% increase in solution quality.

The name “Eigen” is a nod to the mathematical “eigenvalue.” In engineering, this represents a property that remains constant even as everything else transforms. Siemens CTO Peter Koerte explained: “This is a defining moment. The technology is becoming as easy to use as consumer AI, yet it is far more consequential.”

Evidence from the Field

In recent pilots with more than 100 companies, the agent proved it could do more than just assist. For instance, at firms such as ANDRITZ Metals, it transformed multi-discipline challenges into simple conversational workflows. Consequently, engineers could stop worrying about repetitive configuration and focus on high-impact system architecture.

Julie Holmes’ ‘Agentic’ Theory in Practice

Furthermore, this launch perfectly illustrates the “Delegation Dial” Julie Holmes highlighted during her keynote, sponsored by SugarAI, under the Manufacturing Revenue Growth Summit brand. Siemens has successfully automated the mechanical tasks. Because of this, human engineers are now free to focus on the meaningful work of innovation and safety.

The Stats that Matter

  • Velocity: 2x to 5x faster execution than manual workflows.
  • Investment: €1 Billion total Siemens investment in industrial AI.
  • IP: 2,000+ AI patent families currently held by the firm.

The ‘Second Storey’ is Now Open

For the Growth Hub community, the Eigen Engineering Agent represents the “Second Storey” in action. It is no longer about using AI to write an email. Instead, it is about using AI to build the factory floor.

Ultimately, as these agents move into the broader value chain, a competitive gap will widen. The winners will be those who move beyond “advice AI” and deploy “execution AI.”

📍 Engineering Leaders: If you use the TIA Portal, the “Eigen” Agent is available now. You can also talk to representatives at Stand 17-389 at MACH 2026.

Of course, you can also visit the Manufacturing Revenue Growth Summit team at Stand 18-411. Let’s discuss how to integrate autonomous agents into your production strategy.
