Boccard UK Secures 4-Year Sizewell C Nuclear Contract

Boccard UK wins a major 4-year contract to supply high-integrity stainless-steel tanks for Sizewell C, boosting manufacturing jobs in Deeside, North Wales.

Boccard UK has secured a major four-year contract to deliver critical infrastructure for the Sizewell C nuclear power station. The business will fabricate and pre-assemble high-integrity stainless-steel tanks, pools, and sumps for the new 3.2GW facility on the Suffolk coast.

These high-specification components will be embedded directly within reinforced concrete structures across the power station’s Nuclear Island. Consequently, they will play a vital role in supporting the site’s long-term operations and low-carbon energy generation.

Manufacturing Boost for North Wales

The Sizewell C Civil Work Alliance awarded the contract. This alliance includes Sizewell C, Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, and Bouygues Travaux Publics.

Boccard UK will manufacture the components at its fully digitalised production facility in Deeside, North Wales. Meanwhile, Boccard’s specialist engineering team in Roanne, France, will provide technical support.

Overall, the four-year programme will draw on the expertise of more than 200 specialists. Furthermore, the project relies heavily on off-site modular fabrication. This construction model delivers superior quality control, reduces on-site complexity, and ensures greater schedule certainty.

Nigel Cann, CEO of Sizewell C, said:”Sizewell C is essential for our energy future, and this contract is another great example of how we’re delivering it with the best value for the UK. Boccard UK will be manufacturing our tanks in North Wales, supporting vital jobs and opportunities in the Deeside region.

“Over a thousand UK suppliers already benefit from work on the Sizewell C project, with contracts delivering value right across the country. We’re continuing to invest in the growth of UK businesses and in the future of the UK’s skilled construction workforce.”

Driving Regional Investment and UK Net-Zero Goals

Sizewell C recently published its second Annual Sustainability Report, highlighting its massive national economic footprint. The project has already invested nearly £5bn across more than 1,000 UK suppliers, including £1.35bn in the East of England alone.

Currently, more than 2,000 workers are active on the Suffolk site, with a third recruited locally. Additionally, the project has created 120 apprenticeships to date.

The new contract award marks another key milestone for Boccard UK as it continues to expand its footprint in the UK nuclear sector.
Douglas McQueen, CEO of Boccard UK, added: “Winning this contract represents a major milestone for Boccard UK and reflects our strong track record in delivering high-specification nuclear systems. We look forward to working collaboratively with project partners to deliver safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.”
