Last week marked Employee Appreciation Day, but the latest UK data suggests appreciation at work is becoming increasingly rare.

According to the 2026 Achievers Workforce Institute report, the UK is facing a growing “connection deficit” between employees and their managers, costing businesses an estimated £15billion a year in rewards and benefits that simply don’t land.

Here are a few stats that stand out:
  • 1 in 5 UK employees say they never receive recognition at work
  • Only 18% have regular weekly 1:1s with their manager
  • Just 38% trust senior leadership
  • 1 in 3 employees plan to job hunt in 2026
The takeaway? Employees aren’t just leaving for higher pay, many actually feel invisible.

In our latest article, we explore why 2026 could be a make-or-break year for British managers and why the most successful organisations are moving beyond generic perks toward frequent, personalised recognition.
