The race to electrify the UK is often focused on mass-market giants. But, a significant shift is happening in the “aggregate niche.” Custom battery innovator Raeon officially matured its operations. It opened a new 6,000 sq ft flagship headquarters and UK battery manufacturing centre in the heart of Warwick.
For the West Midlands, this isn’t just another factory opening. It is a strategic move into the “Golden Triangle” of UK engineering. Raeon will retain its R&D hub in Witney, Oxfordshire, but the Warwick facility becomes the primary engine for scaling production to serve the Niche Automotive, Marine, Defence, and Aerospace sectors.
Breaking the £2 Million Barrier
Historically, specialist vehicle manufacturers have been priced out of electrification. Developing a bespoke battery design can often exceed £2 million. Unfortunately, this a cost that kills innovation for smaller, high-performance firms.
Raeon is tackling this with its proprietary FloLock™ technology. This resin encapsulation process allows for the creation of robust, thermally managed batteries of almost any shape or size. It removes the need for expensive injection-moulding tooling, which:
- Cuts development costs by over 70%
- Reduces prototype lead times to just 12 weeks.
- Unlocks custom production for sectors that were previously underserved.
A Commitment to UK battery manufacturing
By establishing its production footing in Warwick, Raeon is reinforcing the West Midlands’ reputation as the UK’s “Automotive Valley.” The site features a semi-automated production environment designed to support customers from their very first prototype through to full series production.
Murray Schofield, CEO and Co-Founder of Raeon, says: “For too long, innovative UK manufacturers have been forced to compromise, either buying off-the-shelf batteries that don’t fit or facing unpalatable costs for bespoke development. Our new Warwick facility changes that. We are proving you don’t need to be a mass-market giant to get the perfect battery.”
Tom Brooks, COO and Co-Founder, adds: “This facility provides the supply chain security that is critical for the growth of the UK’s green economy. Whether it is high-performance Motorsport or ruggedised Defence applications, this site gives us the capacity to deliver.”
The “Niche” is the New Mainstream
For B2B sales professionals and supply chain leaders, Raeon’s expansion is a “leading indicator” of the health of the UK’s specialist manufacturing sectors.
The Midlands Angle: The 11.7% surge in regional insolvencies we reported recently shows that “business as usual” is struggling. However, high-growth, tech-led firms like Raeon prove that there is still a massive appetite for investment and expansion in the West Midlands when the technology solves a genuine pain point.
Supply Chain Resilience: Having a domestic source for high-performance power units reduces the “geopolitical risk” for UK niche manufacturers who previously relied on overseas battery providers.
Raeon is unlocking electrification for the “rest of the market.” In 2026, the real growth isn’t just in the volume of the mass market, but in the precision of the niche.
